Tips On Reducing Bruising From Needle Play

I bruise quite easily from needles, even smaller gauges. Bruising is caused by damage to the capillaries in the skin – the more trauma, the more damage, the higher the chance of bruising.

Putting the needles in smoothly and quickly may help, as it will cause less damage to the skin. Putting them in slowly, playing with them once in and taking them out slowly (wiggling them, pulling them up, taking them out at an angle, etc) will cause more damage and increase the chance of bruising.

To reduce bruising, ice the area afterwards to make the capillaries constrict and reduce bleeding. The day after, warm the area to promote circulation and healing. Make sure you have plenty of vitamin C and vitamin K in your diet. Vitamin C helps protect you from bruising and vitamin K helps you heal.
